Marketwatch reports Amazon.com has acquired Ring, the maker of smartphone connected video doorbells, in a deal valued at more than $1 billion. giving it a foothold in the growing internet business of home security. The acquisition is Amazon’s second largest after its roughly $13.5 billion purchase of Whole Foods last year. Can you say: "Alexa, call the cops?"

Annual growth in the U.S. was trimmed to a still steady 2.5% from 2.6%  in the fourth quarter, according to the Commerce Department. That match expectations A slower build in inventories accounted for the downward revision. Consumer spending was unchanged at 3.8%. For all of 2017, the U.S. expanded 2.3% vs. a 1.6% in 2016.Spending on structures rose at 2.5% while Investment in housing rose 13%.
