Massachusetts Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren in a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen encouraged her to fire the twelve Wells Fargo board directors who served during the bank’s fraudulent account opening scandal. Warren wrote that removing the board members would protect the safety and soundness of one of the country’s largest banks. Wells Fargo paid multiple regulators, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a total of $185 million in fines in September of 2016 for opening millions of checking, debit and credit card accounts without customers’ knowledge.
