The House and Senate passed a bill to keep the government operating for another week, lifting the threat of a shutdown after midnight and giving lawmakers more time to hammer out a longer-term spending agreement. The bill funds the government through May 5 at current levels. It goes to President Trump, who is expected to sign it. Without the new spending bill government operations would have partially shut down for the first time since 2013.
