The University of Michigan’s index of consumer sentiment was revised to 96.9 in March from a preliminary 97.6. It hit 96.3 in February. January was the high since 2004, largely because of confidence among Republicans and independents. Democrats though expect the economy to worsen. The partisan divide widened after the election of Donald Trump and other surveys have found the same difference in outlooks.
