The U.S. service sector grew more slowly in February according to the Institute for Supply Management. Its index fell by 0.1 to 53.4%. Analysts expected 53%. Any reading over 50 signals expansion. Employment fell but production rose. Markit’s survey also was released today. It shows services contracting for the first time since October 2013. Service providers told Markit they were the least optimistic about their growth prospects since August 2010.
