October’s consumer price index posted the first increase in three months, but overall U.S. inflation remained low according to the Labor Department. The CPI rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2%. From October 2014 to October 2015, consumer inflation has risen only 0.2%. Energy prices rose an adjusted 0.3% and food edged up 0.1%, the smallest gain in five months. Excluding food and energy, core consumer prices rose 0.2%. Over the past 12 months core prices have climbed only 1.9%. Inflation-adjusted hourly wages advanced 0.2% in October and have climbed 2.4% in the past 12 months.
The Federal Reserve reports industrial production fell 0.2% in October, economists expected only a 0.1% decline. Manufacturing showed improvement, advancing 0.4% after two straight monthly declines.
Consumers’ satisfaction with health insurance providers hit a 10-year low to a score of 69 out of 100, according to a report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index. More than 9,200 randomly selected consumers were surveyed. Out of the 43 industries the ACSI ranks, health insurance companies rank in the bottom five.
