| The Commerce Department reports orders for durable goods fell 3.4% in December. November’s reading was revised downward to a 2.1% drop from 0.9%. Economists expected a 0.1% increase. The weak December reading was the fourth decline in the past five months. | |||||||
| US home prices fell by 0.2% in November, to lower the year-on-year advance to 4.3%, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller 20-city composite index. On a seasonally adjusted basis, home prices were up 0.7%. Chicago had the biggest fall, with a 0.9% drop, while Tampa had the biggest rise, of 0.8%. San Francisco leads in annual gains with an 8.9% gain from November 2013. Portland was up 6.6%, beating Seattle at 6%. | |||||||
| Microsoft shares fell 2.6% to $45.77 on heavy volume after the company reported commercial licensing revenue of $10.68 billion. Analysts expected $10.94 billion. Otherwise, Microsoft’s fiscal second-quarter results were in line with expectations. | |||||||
