| The National Federation of Independent Business said its small-business optimism index rose 0.4 points to 96.1, its second-highest reading since Oct. 2007. Six of ten components increased. | |||||||
| Consumers increased their debt by a seasonally adjusted $26.0 billion in July, up from an $18.8 billion gain in June , according to the Federal Reserve. That a record gain in dollars, and the biggest percentage gain since July 2011. It came in above the market consensus of a $17.0 billion gain. | |||||||
| U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and other top politicians said Tuesday they’re traveling to Scotland to talk to voters ahead of next week’s referendum on whether to keep Scotland within the U.K. The move comes as a YouGov poll and other surveys show growing support for Scotland breaking away from the union. The pound continued a two-day selloff against the dollar. | |||||||
| October crude rose 1.2%, to $93.74 a barrel on the New York Merc. Oil futures have pulled back over the past three sessions. A weekly supply update from the American Petroleum Institute is due out late today. U.S. commercial crude-oil stocks are expected to have fallen by 1 million barrels during the week ended Sept. 5, according to analysis and a survey from Platts released yesterday. | |||||||
